The Alchemist

test

The alchemist shivered, a storm brewing in the distance. The Gods of the elements he worked with had been awoken from their tranquil peace, and now they wanted justice. He was working against the ancient laws of the universe, and yet he was following them. He recalled the white-robed scientists that had recruited him. "Brew Life," they had said. "Bring Life back to Earth." He had had his doubts about the task, but now he deemed it impossible. There was simply no way that he could combine Metal, Water, Fire, Wood and Air to create the fragile spark of Life. But the Gods would never allow a planet to die, especially one that had flourished so. So he worked, an empty feeling in his heart. When he was young, he had thought that Life was the strongest force in the universe, but now, he could see that in truth it was very fragile. He picked up Metal and Wood to create Strength. He used Air and Water to create Lightness and Flexibility. He added Fire for Warmth. When the smoke cleared, he could see that he had created an egg, as hard as bone. It was cold, so he added more Fire. It was risky, but he hoped for results. A cheep came. He was looking at a bird, red and orange, with beautiful plumes. He picked up the elegant bird and pondered over it. " You are the Phoenix, he decided."You are the Fire-bird and you will bring life back to Earth." So he mixed and brewed, with the Phoenix as his companion. When he had finished, he held up the crystal vial. Life sparked inside, and it was forever changing. It was a beautiful lagoon, then a prowling pack of wolves. A high, snowy peak, and a calm forest. He gave the vial to the Phoenix, and instucted it to spread Life across the world. And that is how the alchemist repopulated the Earth.
